And no whining!!! All the Tanga employees were set to get the iphone, but we decided to give you guys all our last decade's profit in Tanga Cash instead.
STUs? Isn't there some type of ointment for STUs?
[2] Prescription only.
whoohoo...this is pretty neat =)
I don't get why I'm a virgin. *cries* I've bought things. I even filled out one of those game things once. Hrmph. Virgin my patootie.
Hate to break it to ya, dude, but if you look at the leaderboard, you can see what the icons are for the various levels.
I like it!
Thanks, this is an improvement to just having the leader board IMO.
Hmmm, how do you use the credits?
++Nevermind, I see it's automaticly applied when buying++
[6] Well, yeah, if someone else reaches a new level, then whenever they post or are on the leaderboard, you can see their level icon.
I would suggest a Level 0 for the "real" virgins to the site... then have some small amount of points (like 50 or 100) be Level 1. 500 points is quite a lot for someone to lose their virginity.
[10] Hm.. yeah, good point.
[edit: ok, done!]
now since things have changed, the above description needs changing to reflect "Level 5" instead of "Level 4" for the "Super Tanga User"... and also the mouse-overs are wrong because of the change.... most everyone should move up a level because of the change...
just thought I would bring it to your attention....
[12] The description and level numbers should be correct now.
I really like the idea of the new system. Thank you Tanga Monkeys!
[13] thanks... everything is back in order... looks good...
How do we view other users' profiles if we don't see a post by them? Is there a way to search on username? Also, is there anyway to see the COMPLETE leader boards, instead of just the top 20?
And, good job on revamping the points system!
Thanks,
bnocturnal
[16] There's not a way to search by username yet. I'll be adding a 'scroll down' link on the leaderboard, so you can jump down and up it 20 people at a time.
[16] Just added 'go down' and 'go up' links to the bottom of each leaderboard.
I think Super Tanga Friendly User has some undesired connotations.
But, I like the new fruity icons!
Pretty nice...I'm a strawberry.
Would it be possible at some point to click on the fruit icon and find out who else is in that level with you?
This absolutely rocks. I'm very happy. I wasn't too pleased when it was only benefiting those with more money than me. Thanks, Tanga!
Yeah, this new system is neat. Seems fair. I just hate that I'm #666 overal.... evil overall, yeah, that'd be me...
LOL!
[17] Super Tanga User!Tanga Admin TangaJoe
Can you put the icons after the name in the blogs?
When I am replying to a particular post, I select from the end of the name to the beginning post number, cut and paste into the "leave a comment" window, and am catching the icons also, which show up as above...
Wow, I wish I had bought all that stuff in the auctions when they were going on so I could've gotten all that free stuff. If I had known that I would get all the points I spent back I would've bid high on everything offered.
So, if you never buy anything you never change?
Very nice Tanga. Thanks!
You get props for the new program!
[26] Tanga Initiate Hope2002
You will change as you accumulate points other ways (solving puzzles, participating in special activities - responding to some tanga times questions, jigsaw puzzles - TBD, and publishing puzzles) - just not as quickly as you will by purchasing items...
[24] How about if I add a 'reply to this post' button that fills in the comment box with that stuff for you?
[31] Awesome idea.
P.S. I just hope the top level icon is a pacman.
[31] TangaJoe
That would be great!
This is awesome!!! Thanks, Tanga!
Out of curiosity, for those not in the Top Ten for June, I have two questions for ya. Before I ask them, here are some stats that may help you determine your answers -
-- Each purchase is worth 30 points, and let's say an average item costs $13.50 including shipping (a bit conservative). I won't include bonus points for buying first and last for the day (20 extra points each).
-- For June, #10 accumulated 927 points, bought approximately 30 items and spent ~$405.00.
-- #1 is insane (j/k! ;), accumulated 4555 point, bought ~151 items at ~$2038.50
-- #2 (me - insane Jr. lol) accumulated 2070 points, buying 61 items (actual), and spending ~$847.00
Given that #10 spent around $400 real dollars to acquire that coveted position, with #1 spending over $2k, here are my two questions...
1) How much Tanga Cash do you think each of the Top Ten Folks received?
2) How much would have been a fair amount (if different)?
Since I was in the Top Ten, I'll refrain from voicing my opinion on the issue until I read some replies.
1) I would imagine it falls somewhere in the $10 to $30 dollar range, maybe as high as $50.
2) I'm not sure in what context you would define "fair" or "unfair". It's a customer incentive program, no doubt about it. You have been given something for being a good customer. If it was not to your liking, then you do not have to continue to be such a good customer, but the only way "fairness" comes into the equation is if they changed the rules after the fact, rigged the results, or were otherwise arbitrary in administering it. Nowhere did they promise that they would be showering the leaders with massive prizes, just that there would be prizes. If specific amounts had been promised but not delivered on, that would be another thing.
It's nice that you have found so many good deals here on Tanga, but don't fall into the trap of thinking that because you spent $850.00 that Tanga "made" $850.00. They sell products at a discount, and I'm sure they put a markup on all the items, but I'd guess not the 100 to 300% you'd get at a retail store. Also, probably $150.00 of your bill went to shipping, and I would not think Tanga makes much of anything on the shipping. Some of this stuff is quite heavy. Of course, any math I do about how much they make per item would be just speculation, but then they have to cover expenses and overhead. Tanga is a business, and you engaged in 61 business transactions with them, in which you received what you paid for. Any of their profits they share with you for being so loyal are great.
And in what universe did anyone spend money to acquire a position on the leaderboard? They spent money buying products, if you were buying more just to move up, then perhaps professional help is in order? :)
When Tanga introduced the leaderboard they said
"Each and every month, we will be giving away prizes to the top point leaders of the month... The rewards will be announced 2-3 days after the end of the month and we will announce those prizes and winners in the Tanga News section of the web site."
Regardless of how much anyone has spent, "a prize" is a prize - and could be leftover tanga trash :-)
Most of the items at Tanga are already deeply discounted - and I suspect (but do not KNOW) a goodly amount of the items sold here end up on ebay at a profit. So I would expect the prizes would be token at best - which I think is "fair" regardless...
[35] First, who cares how much someone spent on Tanga... the accumulated points earned in a month is more than how much was spent on products, it also consist of submitting puzzles, completing puzzles, etc... so basically, your stats are bogus...
Second, if you want to bring attention to yourself on how much you spent, that's fine, but please keep in mind that others might take offense if you use them in your stats (whether right or wrong)...
I agree with leadfoot, "Regardless of how much anyone has spent, "a prize" is a prize - and could be leftover tanga trash :-)"
I don't come to Tanga just to purchase products or see my name on the leaderboard, I could care less about that, I like doing the puzzles, that's what brought me here in the first place...
Personally, I think Tanga is providing too much info for others to see in someone else's account.. but that's my opinion...
Interesting replies so far. I appreciate the feedback. I'll wait for a few more before providing my opinions and clarifications.
Seems to me you are making this out to be a competition, I spent more than this person so I should get more than them. It's an incentive program, basically thanking you for being a good customer. Not bragging rights that you spent more than that person. The accumulated points is not only items that you bought, it also includes puzzles completed, puzzles submitted, little contest that show up now and then, extra points given by admin, etc. It's a mixture of things.
Who cares what the prize is, it could very well be different each and every month, Tanga Cash, game, or other items that Tanga has to offer in that particular month. I also could care less who shows up on the leaderboard, to me it's not an incentive program its a competition. I will probably never see my name on the leaderboard, and I don't care, I come and do the puzzles for the fun of it.
For customer loyalty programs and such, 1% is often the best you can do on kickbacks. So, if you spent $850 in a month, that would give you $8.50 back in Tanga Cash, if that's the way it were handled. If you get less than $5 in kickbacks, no, it's not a very motivating program. If you get $50 or more in kickbacks, then I should be trying harder, because that's an awesome return.
I do feel that you should buy what you want, solve the puzzles that interest you, etc. with little concern for the leaderboard. If you see a product, you pay what you think is a fair price, and you get cool stuff. Any kickbacks you might get would be gravy. Buying stuff just to be on the leaderboard seems like it would be frustrating and wasteful. And unless the kickbacks and prizes are really great, I will continue to think it's not that great an incentive program.
I am curious to hear the rest of the story from Peart, though.
Personally, I think it's a great incentive program. I am a frequent puzzler and occasional buyer, although my buying has been limited lately since my husband's new favorite game is "anyone who earned a paycheck last month, raise your hand." I suppose I could respond with "anyone who was in labor for 14 hours raise your hand", but I don't think that would effectively solve the money issues....At any rate, I already have 10 bucks in my account so I am thrilled.
[39] Peart
I'm interested to hear your thoughts on the subject...
I was looking at this again, are there really only 36 STUs? or am I looking at this wrong?
[44] obisbo99
Looking at the leaderboard - it looks like that is correct...
edit:
Up to 38 now!
In order to be a stu at this point, you have to have purchased multiple items from Tanga (or supplied a junkload of content or some combination thereof). I have made a couple of purchases, I would have made more, but the items I would have purchased were in too limited supply. I don't know the other non-STU's reasons.
Simply put, you can't be a STU if you just solved puzzles, at least for about another year or so.
I just noticed - Tanga Virgins have not yet lost their cherries. I wonder if that was intentional...
Hmmm, strawberrys, lemons, peaches, bananas, oranges. What are you saying....we're all fruity?
I liked it better in the good ol' days, before the evil leader board assigned us a rank and divided us into categories.
Back then we were all created equal, no one was insignificant or lower class, and there was a feeling of community. The amount of points one had was a private matter, a personal secret kept quiet.
Now it's displayed in the open for all to see, with glory heaped upon those who now rank at the top, leaving those whose name does not appear on the list to feel cast aside, worthless and that being a valued member is reserved for the new elite class created by the evil leader board.
I know of some who have refused to have their points paraded, who have maintained their privacy and integrity by refusing to be party to this divisive ranking. They've left Tanga, not to return.
In my opinion, the leader board robbed the fun and excitement out of Tanga, and apparently it created a batch of mentally ill (and no doubt financially strained) who will buy multiples of anything just to gain more points and climb to the top of the fruit bowl for their wee bit of glory. Tsk tsk, how sad.
I never cared for a pecking order either.
Is there a $5 reward at 2000pts, or just the STU badge?
[50] John
Just the STU badge - at least that's what I got...
Is level 9 a pumpkin?
nice

The Monkeys at Tanga have decided that we need to figure out a way to reward all of our great Tanganites who have been collecting Tanga Points for the past several months. We have listened to your feedback, received valuable insight from our top users and have come up with a great program that we think you will enjoy.
The Leaderboard that we launched last month works well for those who are in the top 10 but it doesnât do very much for those who donât purchase bunches of products and participate in Daily Fun every evening. So we like to introduce our Tanga Point Program!
Our new program rewards all of our customers with the chance to earn Tanga Cash Rewards in the form of a credit in your account. With every purchase you make and every puzzle you solve or have published, you will receive Tanga Points. When you reach a certain number of Tanga Points, you will earn a new rank, icon and a reward!
Starting today, you will retroactively receive Tanga Points according to the current amounts of Tanga Points for purchases. So if all products you have purchased from the beginning of Tanga will now show up as 30 Tanga Points (or 50 if you were the first or last to purchase.) Any Tanga Points you used for auctions will be given back to you as they are no longer used as a currency.
For EACH level you achieve, you will get your new rank, title, icon and Tanga Cash reward added to your account that you can use at any time.
For those who start out the system at level 4 (for example) you will automatically get the rewards for all previous levels added to your account!
Here is what the levels look like:
Points Level Reward 0 Level 0 0 100 Level 1 0 500 Level 2 $5 1000 Level 3 $5 2000 Level 4 Super Tanga User 3000 Level 5 $5 4000 Level 6 $5 6000 Level 7 $10 8000 Level 8 $10 10000 Level 9 $10 15000 Level 10 $25 20000 Level 11 $25 30000 Level 12 $50 40000 Level 13 $50 50000 Level 14 $50 75000 Level 15 $150 100000 Level 16 $200You will notice that level 4 is a special level! We have finally implemented our Super Tanga User status. STUs receive special treatment and will have access to STU only deals that we will randomly put on the website once a month, special access to give user feedback and other benefits. If you become an STU, please make sure to sign up for our email or text message alerts so you donât miss out on any STU only deals.
We have decided to keep the level titles and icons a secret so that you will be surprised to see what they are when you finally get to a certain level.
What will happen to the Leaderboard? It will still be there and we will continue to give Tanga Cash prizes to the top 10 for each month and special prizes to the top 10 yearly leaders.
We hope you enjoy the new program and hope that you will continue to visit Tanga and share our company with your friends and family!
