The boxcar seems to be hanging me up. Other than that, I'm glad I watched PBS all those weekend evenings!

sweet, two top 10s and a 14th for me tonight... my best ever!

[1]same here....
Actually had the boxcar - typo in another word...and 21st as a result.

Salt on the boxcar?

Ok. The fourth clue and the eighth clue seem to be showing the same thing. What is the difference?

These are tough to search for...

[1],[3],[4]: imagine it to be little and red

There is a mistake on the boxcar: the American spelling of the British term is five letters, but the British spelling repeats the middle letter, giving it six letters.

boxcar = google railway and see if you can find old words for that

[6] Sorry. I meant the red can and the gas pumps. I have the food answers.

[10]: The red can is what's in the can. The gas pumps refer to the building.

Actually had the boxcar right. I think it's the gas station that's hanging me up.

Edit: Finally got the gas station. Don't hear that word that way often unless I'm listening to Levi from Elton John.

And the shoes have two spellings.

I'm hung up on the gas station. Salt?

Stuck on the dress :(

[13]: Read comment [10]. It's the building, not the pumps.

I have all of them except the train car. That one, I have *no clue* about. I hate when this happens.

Got it, I'm an idiot.

[16] Great salt in [7]

Thought I had them all...agree that the railway car is spelt wrong...but maybe it's something else...I'm stuck on that one

Thanks for the salt, ahecht!

38th! I'm on FIRE tonight!

18 - Not helping, alas.

Edit - Really? I've never heard that usage.

Also, HOW do you make the links to previous posts work? I used to click and drag the number into the comment box, but now that doesn't work.

It's puzzles like this that make me happy I'm an American living in Britain, even though a few of these I've not heard used in common practice.

That was brill!

Finally!!

[23] Friggin' brill!

Pukka puzzle, Geeza!

[11] Thanks! I couldn't figure out what that was indicating. I thought it referred to a gas station, but I couldn't find a term for that which fit.

I'm just happy I got all but 4 of them without help.

Edit:
[21] simply type the post number in square brackets. The system automatically makes the link for you.

Just my cuppa tea!

Any salt for the dress? I'm just not getting it.

I'm stuck on the dress and the shoes.

[29],[30] For the dress, think of a monk's robe.

Sorry, I can't think of help for the shoes. I found an answer after searching for British English translations. That's the best I can offer.

[29] and [30] Check your tangagrams.

now just the dress

[32] Thank you! Now I'm getting it.

think of a little kids dress

Nice puzzle! Challenging but not too tough.

Fun puzzle! I knew all but three off the top of my head.

effingpot = internet salt

[30} salt for the shoes is also the name of an obscure 80s new wave band. Though the band spelled the name differently than the direct British term for the shoe pictured. They had only one minor hit on the soundtrack of an 80s teen movie (not "Fast Times at Ridgemont High")

nice.

Oh, and wikipedia has an entry on everything: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_words_havi...

Still not getting the shoes or dress...other salt helped on the gas station, but the boxcar is throwing me. A slang term I found on 3 different sites doesn't fit. Van car. Any sympathy?

Sigh.... I have all the answers but something's misspeeeeled. :(

NEVERMIND... vertical shoes used the unusual speeling. :)

Ok, the dress I *should* have got.. the boxcar took some work, but the flippin' shoes? Never heard of that word in my bloody life..

Okay...woke up this morning and retried all my answers...can't figure out what I spelled wrong. Anyone willing to check my answer list and steer me right?

[45] the spelling on the shoes is a bit wonky; make sure you're not all by yourself.

Great Puzzle!! The only one that tripped me up for a few minutes was number 4.

I think its stupid that it gives you an all or nothing on "check your answers" ... at least an "x of y" would be nice.

[45] Tangagram sent.

Puzzle was wiz! Here's a big salt-link: http://www.peak.org/~jeremy/dictionary/dictiona...

Thanks Scoutmom...weird shoe spellings get me every time.

Got all the answers but something has got to be spelled wrong. I have checked them all and for the life of me can't find it. Aargh! I hate to be a pest but would someone mind checking me?

curlykitty - sent you some help!

Thank you scoutmom! I did have one of the easiest ones misspelled and couldn't see the error. Thanks again!

I agree - a little "x of y correct" would be grand! I have them all filled in, and it's still not right...

Edit: Nevermind - I got it. Those darn shoes!

I've checked and double checked, and I can't find what I've got mis-spelled. ***edit*** got it. It was the stupid shoes.

[12] Thank you!!!

That was the last one hanging me up. Sat here going through the song in my head trying to find a word that fit the cross letter I had already. Good thing I love that song! (Picking at nits - it's Levon...)

I'm totally stuck on the not a gas station one. Much of my problem is that I can't come up with the American name for the structure. Argh.

If only Babelfish had an American to British dictionary. Good thing Google has several editions...

[58] Depending where in America you live, it's the same word, just pronounced a little different...and you might have one at home...

The one I hated was the eggs or whatever under the snausages...had me mashing my brains out!

[41] THANK YOU! There's apparently 3 different ways to spell 11! (And I had the wrong one!)

Too me too long; need to watch more British comedies. :)

Since people have trouble spelling #11, you'll need 3 of the same letter.
