I get "login failed -- please try again" in both IE7 and FF2.0.0.11.
I did get in when I registered as a new user in FF.
I can't get anything to happen (tried IE 6 and Firefox 1.0.7).
"Connecting to the LIVE Picathon server...... "
I guess I will try again later
EDIT: working now in FF 2.x
I couldn't get in on IE7, but Firefox 1.5.0.12 worked just fine. I'll be happier when the IE bugs are killed, because I really don't care for Firefox much. Fun game, though. :)
I also got stuck at the "Connecting to the LIVE Picathon server...... " using IE 6.0.
For me, when I'm on the page you pointed to, if I click on the tabs at the top of the page (Home, Profile, etc...) I'm taken back in time to December 18th. I can answer puzzles I've already solved again for points (though they don't add to the current points) and it looks like I can order a copy of Ra with an XXL shirt.
Pretty neat game if it allows for time travel!!!
TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIME WAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRP
[4] Yeah, I got the same thing. I cancelled out before I got the error message. I thought for a second it was a puzzlethon 'cause they were different puzzles than last night. But they looked oddly familiar. I tried to solve one and even though the header said it was worth 3 points, I was awarded something like 90, but it didn't add to my actual total. I clicked on my Profile tab and it just shows a bunch of what look to be Ruby Rails commands.
Kinda weird, that's for sure. I'm using IE 7 by the way. Trying Firefox now...
Edit: Firefox 2.0.0.8 didn't work either. When I went to another tab, it did warn me that I would have to wait for another game, but when I said that's OK, it did the time warp thing.
It asks me to log in under IE, and my password is not accepted.
Using IE6 - the page loads but I cannot read the whole paragraph written under "Lobby" - it gets cut off by the "Talk Smack" section. I can see two other people listed under "Other party". That is it - no place to click to play anything and if I type into talk smack and click send message nothing happens.
Oh, also IE6 shows error on the page as follows:
Line: 129
Char: 3
Error: 'Picathon' is undefined
Code: 0
URL: http//butthead.tanga.com:7010/picathon
Time Warp sent me back to Dec 18th........
[8] same here
i tried to type smack and it wouldn't allow it.
I also couldn't purchase the ra game. :(
Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at butthead.tanga.com:7010.
Tried IE - and logged in, and "joined the party"
and got
Connecting to the LIVE Picathon server......
sitting there for a long time...
using IE 6.0.2900....
can't log on in IE6 - and seem to have lost 2500 tanga points from my total
[13] you probably haven't lost the points - I think this is a beta site, and they probably snapshotted it a while ago...
Can't "join the party"
can't "talk smack"
I can't doing anything in IE. Error on page
In firefox I can join the match but the pictures do not load.
[15] PB you were leaving smack, over and over again but you couldn't see it. I am guessing you are using IE
Game is stuck... someone please reboot the hamsters?
[16] LOL!
I couldn't even connect with firefox.
I also tried firefox with an IE emulator - ng.
Using FF 2.0.0.12
I guess that's what beta testing is all about... when it doesn't work, you let them know.
Gotta go now will try again later.
Worked fine until the game jammed in Firefox 2.0.0.9...
Okay - slightly better...
Now the page loads, I can see many of my Tanga friends in the Upcoming Party list, and I can click on Join.
After that it tells me it is loading....loading....loading..............
Page error now reads same as [9] except it is at Line 156.
Hope this is helpful!
Looks interesting and I can't wait to play! :)
After I got in, it was mostly working, although a few times the game got confused and made me a spectator in the middle of voting.
Fearless Joe appears to be unclogging the service right now.
Chat is still up. If you can't get that far, try another browser or a newer version. Most recent version of Firefox seems to do the trick.
It's up again. Come back!
[24] Just updated to Firefox 2.0.0.12 and I still can't get in.
Be careful not to use the other parts of the Tanga site while you're at that test domain for the Picathon... I submitted a puzzle at the "Contribute Fun" tab while I was there, and it didn't appear in my puzzle listing on the main Tanga site.
[26] Well, you went back in time and submitted it on 12/18, so it may have already been published!
firefox still doesn't work for me - now just loading, loading, loading....... at the original page... "connecting to butthead.tanga.com"
I wonder if my firefox doesn't like the name "butthead"
IE on the other hand, does load a page, but the text size was too large and I couldn't see the "join the party" button. I resized text and pushed the button... now I'm going to see what it did...
Back to the endless " Connecting to the LIVE Picathon server...... "
Doesn't work and differently than it did when I commented in [18]
need another person in the party
interesting it didn't award any points, maybe they will show up later...
Looking at the "Activity Log" of the 'butthead' version of the page, it's awarding points there, which don't carry over to this "real" tanga.com page.
Back to [21] - with error at line 129 and Connecting to the Live Picathon Server........(endlessly)
I feel a bit like a yo yo... :)
hey! it's working for me now (7:10 pm eastern)
FF 2.0.0.12
hmmmm had to wait quite a while to get a game going, and by the time it started I think someone had left the room...
is there a way to say "i've waited long enough, gotta go?"
also - perhaps some audible alert that the picathon is about to start...
Should ties for the most be a strike??? I don't think so... - but maybe there is a compelling reason for it...
such as.. if there are only two players then the game would never end... a tie would not be a strike, and both picking the same picture would not be a strike.....
Come on, somebody come and play... :)
That's very addicting... I have to quit after a couple rounds and make myself go do something else. hehehe.
[36] The game doesn't work with 2 players. That's why it always ends when you're down to 2.
To devs:
Do you think you could you start caching the next set of images sooner? It's kind of annoying to run out half your time while images are still loading.
Please wait. Connecting to the LIVE Picathon server......
I gave up after a while.
I'm using IE7. I'm able to join a game and select one of the first two pictures. But then it freezes up.
When I am able to send a message (which isn't always the case), the message first appears to the left of the chat box. After a minute or so, it moves over into the chat box.
[42] Mine now does the same using IE6. Have not tried sending a message though.
Just got on - pictures came up and then Wow - one click and a boot! Window closed right down by itself.
I can post a message and it shows up just fine.
A question for the Tanga guys...
are you saving the smack comments to look for beta test notes?
I've been trying to note as I go, because it's difficult to be switching back and forth to leave a comment here...
When "game over man!" comes up there are sometimes multiple winners, but some with more strikes than others...
It seems that the winner s/b the person with the fewest strikes, and then only have ties if the no. of strikes is the same..
Still cannot get past clicking on the first picture and then it freezes.
[36] et al.
I like the idea of ties being a strike, it would allow for quicker games and a shorter wait time between games starting. I never liked logging on to a game with a few minutes to spare and not getting to play.
Which reminds me, does anyone know if an incarnation of Acrophobia exists anywhere these days? I don't want to hijack this thread, so please shoot me a Tangagram if one does!
This was pretty fun and I loved the "time warp"!
it would be nice to see the list of comments that are already in the queue when you join a party...
I REALLY enjoyed the game.... but I want my Ra and XXL t-shirt now.... since I am mocked with it daily....:(
I think there should be a "i'm leaving the lobby" selection.
Several times I have come in to find the people in the upcoming party have left (probably due to not having enough to play) - but they're still logged in and I get to play a game all by myself - not too much fun. And when I navigate away from the page it looks like it is letting me leave gracefully - but when I go back It doesn't make me "join" again and puts me back as fif I never left.
Using Firefox 2.0.0.12 I needed one more player, had my spouse come in. He saw all the pictures and got to play, but I didn't ever have the page show me he joined, or show any pictures. It just sat on the waiting screen.
Still same as my post in [48] for me. :(
In the "upcoming party" list in the Lobby - it would be helpful to see when the people "joined" the party... to have a better idea if the party is going to actually start or not ---- Or, when people leave you could take them off the party list...
Hey Tanga guys -
please let us know when you have fixed the game, and need us to test it more. We have no idea if the previously mentioned issues have been addressed or not - and it doesn't make sense for us to be testing the same thing over and over..
Thanks
Pb
Another suggestion... (if you haven't already thought of it)
When you make this available on the daily fun page (and home page?) I suggest you indicate that a game has people waiting to play with them (or a challenge has been made) "needs n tanganites to start a match" I think more people will come if they know they're likely to start a match by joining.
Just tried the game from work - using IE7 - what a mess, made my whole computer "hang" for several minutes. Then got on (kinda) and the window was all squashed up and then I clicked in it and it "hung" again. Oh, and we do not have any restrictions in place here as to sites or anything.
Wierd, if you click on "home" after going into picathon, you enter alternate universe Tanga, where Digital DJ is the bottom feeder and RA and XXL t-shirt is the deal.
Running the fox on Ubuntu here and having no troubles except for the concept. Guessing what the herd will do? Not fun, not challenging. The randomness is fun the first game, but I would prefer to see head to head type and multiplayer strategy board games such as "Alchemy" or "Shuffle Bump" type games. The online community of Puzzle Pirates had fantastic head to head games I would love to see other places. Even let me wager tanga points against others?
It works in IE7 now (except for one tiny problem that I mentioned earlier -- new messages initially appear far off to the left, but eventually move into the message box).
I played three games, and found it utterly boring!
Whoohoo! Just loaded and played a whole game without any errors! Using IE6 guys! Cool!
"spectated" me once in the middle of a match - but let me pick the next image
spectated again!
it looks like all four were spectated
smack messages are not displaying right away
smack messages are waiting to show until you mouse over the comments below
Using Firefox 2.0.0.12
"The connection was reset" error. Page did not load
It worked with Firefox 2.0.0.12 but chose a seemingly random number of tanga points to assign to me. It is just about half of the number of points that I actually have.
The number of tanga points at the top of the page didn't change after the puzzle awarded me points but the number next to my avatar did reflect the change.
For those wondering...The points and almost everything on the beta site are from Dec 18 if my memory serves me correctly. Everything is kinda frozen in time from that point. Your points reflect what you had then. Your avatar will be what it was that date. They wanted a Tanga site that functioned, but only what needed to for the purposes of betatesting. Don't bother trying to order the copy of Ra+XXL shirt, it won't work. That sold out last December. Get it?
Also...Although the game says it's awarding points, it's awarding points on the BETA site. If you check your points back on the regular site, you'll see they're not there. So if your only motivation is to score a bunch of points ahead of the crowd, you're wasting your time. This is both a sneak peek opportunity AND an opportunity to give something back to the folks at Tanga by betatesting and giving the much needed feedback. The more kinks we get sorted out now, the less we have to deal with later when the game goes live.
Thank You
That is all...
Firewall at work blocks random ports so I can't test.

http://butthead.tanga.com:7010/picathon
And start playing! We have experienced some issues with IE so please let us know what types of bugs you have and what suggestions you have on making this game better by posting below on the blog.
Right now we only have it working on NON-IE browsers. Please play with Opera, Firefox or Safari (Windows and Mac)
