frick I have wanted one of these for as long as they have been on the market. It would be great for class/light use. It wouldn't replace my desktop or macbook but its a great tertiary device for connectivity on the go. If only I had an increased stipend! Go for it people!
on a very useful laptop. Certainly not enough for a main p.c., but a real, real nice travel laptop. I dropped the linux for WinXP, which runs totally fine on this laptop, even with the stock 512mb. Everything you've ever wanted to know about this line of laptops can be found here:
The buy it now prices on e-bay will show you that the laptop is in pretty high demand. I got one right when they came out, and for a good long while it was difficult to find one at all. Looks like they're back in stock at most places for 100.00 more than this. I wouldn't worry about the Refurb, as it probably reflects buyers remorse for those that found the keyboard too small (which takes some getting used to) and/or weren't fond of the preinstalled linux. Asus has sold over a million of these things for good reason.
Ok, I can get over the Pink. So I'm left with what type of refurb is this which ultimately determines whether or not this is a better deal than a new black one @ Amazon for $385.
Pink = That's what they make contact sheets for...
I think it's rather cute (but then again, I am a girl...) I wish I needed one - if I was still in college, I'd like one for class (lugging my 10 lb machine around was a pain - especially in grad school).
My brother has been looking at getting one of these to use for im'ing while he plays games on his other machine.
I would not touch this, all it is good for is surfing the web. This is not for everyday home use. Buy an Iphone or Ipod touch if you just want easy acess to wifi(plus they have more storage). This computer does not even list what programs it already has on it. It will not have microsoft office, so you will either have to save all your files as .txt or download openoffice witch will take up just under 10% of your storage. If you are looking for a nice cheap computer for your home look at the dell Inspiron 518, brand new $349, and it has intel duo core witch will smoke a Celeron any day even with vista.
(19) You are wrong. It will have Open Office, already installed and ready to run. It does more then surfing the web. No, it isn't an all day long, every day computer. It is for taking to class, to a meeting to use to take notes, to surf the web, play music and many other things. Your comparing it to a much larger computer. I wouldn't be carrying a 14 inch laptop because of the weight. This computer can fit in a purse or backpack with lots of books. It has lots of uses. And it finds wifi spots better then alot of other computers I've been around.
[20] your right it is not a viable alternative, the dell inspiron 518 is not a laptop, its is a better *home* pc.
[21] I did check and your right it does come with openoffice 2.0 wich you will then have to upgrade, found this site for software tweaks http://www.linux.com/feature/12789. I will never see the value in this product. I see this as an entertainment device not a work device and I do not see much fun in it. Although I did have a good laugh with bluemoons opening statement.

I absolutely love mine! Light enough to take almost anywhere! Great for connecting to the internet, taking notes, even works for playing games!

compare to Computer Geeks.com http://search.geeks.com/?srm=0&QUERY=eee%20701
including shipping, Tanga is about $5 cheaper for the same refurbished model.
or, on Newegg, they go for $400 new http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item...

They just released a 10" version with a full size keyboard. My fat fingers wouldn't forgive me if I went with the 7"

Argh! I have an OLPC XO notebook and was looking at a Redfly (my wife and I both have T-Mobile Dash smartphones) but have a serious eye on the EeePC.
I'm a woot-veteran so I'm ok with a refurb... but Pink? PINK?!
Anyone know what kind of refurb this is? Is it a used item that was returned or an unsold item returned back to Asus?

A real man is not afraid of pink. It is the most macho color for this reason.

millerparkbound you miss the point of the EeePC. A Dell Inspiron is NOT a viable alternative to this.
