Sounds slightly familiar, but kind of cool

I'm still stumped.

Do I need to cut this out?

I can't believe I figured this one out!

Bart: Heads up, Homer!

[throws ball, which hits him in the head]

Homer: Ow!

It just clicked into place!

I'm so lost with this one that I doubt that even my Girl Scout compass could help me.

So many clues to the correct answer. The theater setting is a ;ittle missleading but the text and the screen image tells the tale. It truly is right under your nose.

Finally understood the arrow/number clue. But I have no idea what the background image has to do with the solution. At least the AHA! moment was relatively salt-free.

Does this have to do with ZIP codes?

EDIT: nm; a two-word phrase on BGG did it for me. Nothing to do with ZIP codes whatsoever.

Cute.

38th. Yeah, veterans here kinda been there, done that. Shoulda seen it sooner.

39th! First ever Top 50. Yay me!

I'm really not sure how I got it. I thought I understood the arrows and numbers. It got me the first 3 letters, but I can't get the rest of the answer that way.

EDIT: Duh. I had the arrow/number thing wrong... I just happened to get something close enough to work! Got it now.

Rough. Got excited when I first saw this puzzle. Thought it was going to be a real dandy. Background could have been anything however. The theater doesn't really make any sense.

My printer was a major disadvantage for this puzzle...

Is there anyone here to whom the clue is really true?

[18] I think it has something to do with the rows of seats on either side of the center aisle.

I don't know how long I spent staring at things under my nose, trying to make sense of them.

...no, I take that back. It was 27 minutes and 18 seconds (with a few breaks here and there for getting my mind off things for a bit).

(And every time I see a puzzle like this, I try not to think about the New World Symphony.)

So cool. Would have been faster but my key is so cheap that the letters have rubbed off a bit.

My key is fine, it;'s my mind that has rubbed off a bit. Someone please geekmail me and put me out of my misery.

[21] you couldn't be more wrong

hld what is your gm?

very elegant, once you get the pattern!

Jerkstore- Nevermind, I had the letters but I made two words out of them instead of one.

oh we're kickin' it old school. =) awesome puzzle.

Gottit! Think about what kind room it is. How could possible do with a key? Then you can solve it.

The room looks like a theatre to me..

Got it in nine minutes, but spent most of that time staring at it trying to figure out the "key" clue. This is quite similar to a very early Tanga puzzle, but I didn't recognize it for a while.

Well done! Solvable, salt-free, and research-free!

I solved it, but I don't get it (a post upthread gave it away for me). I've never been so clued out about a puzzle for which I've provided a correct solution!

i can'
t figure it out. I'm a newbie so I'll check back in the morning.

I got it and then checked out BGG and was wondering what the heck "philtrum" has anything to do with this puzzle?

[34] LoneWolf
philtrum is right under your nose literally - the bit between your lips and your nose, with the small cleft...

[edit] from wiki: The philtrum (Greek philtron, from philein, "to love; to kiss") is the vertical groove in the upper lip, formed where the nasomedial and maxillary processes meet during embryonic development."

and thx [36] princessproton

[34], [35]

That's what's beneath your nose but it has nothing to do with this puzzle (and it isn't what the clue is referring to). Don't take the garden path that I did thinking that it was saying "filter 'em"...

Yeah, and don't bother jumping on the "multiples of 9" train, either. It's headed north, when the answer is to the south.

There's something vaguely Tetris-y about this puzzle.

Nice one Gilberto

good one :)

hmm, it appears that my key is configured a bit differently than normal. That's what I get for using a laptop.

I never did get the order right, but hey, that's what anagram programs are for, right?

I'm glad people are enjoying the puzzle.
The reason for the background picture is a subtle clue pointing towards the similarity in the arangement of the seats in a theater relative to one another and .....

[42]That sort of makes sense, interhawk. But I remain puzzled by this puzzle, despite having "solved" it. Can't make head or tail of the numbers, the arrows, or the screen. And I think I'm only half getting the clue at the bottom. Given the fact I know the answer this makes me teh suxxor!

I got the number and arrow clues. Not sure why there's Keys pictured in the theater though :-D

# It took you 11 minutes and 14 seconds to solve this puzzle.
# You were the 193rd Tanga member to solve this puzzle.

One of my better times, probably. >_>

For most of the 11 minutes I thought the arrows meant one thing, when they actually meant another. Once I gave up on my original thought and tried something else it came pretty quickly.

[41] The order of the numbers is from top to bottom.

I don't know if the key is right under your nose but it is probably right at your fingertips.

tetris doesn't seem to work...

Great puzzle! I got it pretty quickly because I remembered an earlier puzzle that used the same key. I certainly wasn't board by this one. Well done!

I like it :)

I figured out the main trick and the meaning of the arrows, but I originally read the letters in the wrong order - I wrote down the entire left side first, then the right side. But at a glance, I could anagram the letters to the actual answer, and then in retrospect figured out in what order they were supposed to have been read.

It's a neat coincidence (at least I"m assuming it's a coincidence) that the particular word chosen as the final answer can be formed using this particular solving method.

ARRRRGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!

i just FINALLY put in an answer that occured to me 12 hours ago. TWELVE HOURS AGO! and it was the right answer. but i thought, lo those many hours ago, "THIS can't be the answer. THIS isn't right under my nose. Maybe if I was solving this puzzle back in 1976 it would be, but certainly most people looking at this puzzle on their computers don't even HAVE one of these, let alone keep it under their nose.

argh. nice puzzle, but totally misleading clue. it would've been more accurate to say "the key probably ISN'T right under your nose, because you live in the 21st century."

Sheesh! It took me long enough. Awfully salty there, maluba.
Once I got that hint, backsolving it was a piece of cake! I was close for a mighty long time--I just couldn't figure out what to do with the arrows (nice clue, though!).

Maluba, the KEY is under your nose -- not the ANSWER!

It is actually NOT a coincidence that this word can be formed by this method. It was designed that way for salesmen to use.

NOW I get this puzzle!

Took me only 16 hours after "solving" it to understand why the right answer was the right answer.

It's actually quite clever.

[54] maybe i don't understand what the KEY is then, still. i thought i knew. it seemed that they were the same...

OH!

the key.

as in the key from the other hint. oh.

excuse me. i have to eat some words.

oh, duh. I was stuck up on the "0" cause i was counting...once i really looked at the arrows it became quite clear.

nice puzzle!

wow, went pretty fast once I knew what the key was

and this is logical how?

I don't like it. I figured out the "key" on my first guess, but it wasn't very clear what to do with it. The fact that the numbers are so jumbled is confusing, as well as the fact that the arrows point toward them instead of away from them. I don't know if I ever would have figured that out without looking at the solution. According to the official solution, there's a lot of random noise, but not enough of the necessary information.

Also, there's a lot of noise in here and not much useful salt.

According to the solution the seats are staggered, but it looks like they line up to me, with each row having five seats.

I didn't understand the arrows until after I got the answer. After that, I appreciated the puzzle a lot more.

Well, it's been a while so:
