[1] I don't know- I haven't solved this yet- but if you image-google "crystal basketball trophy" you will find out what the award is, then image-google the the award name will get you this exact picture. (deliberately avoiding names since I don't know what may be inadvertant salt)
Now that I have solved it, I can give a little more help than I did in [3]. The picture shows, in part, the national basketball championship trophy. Image-google that to find the picture.
I didn't want to identify the trophy until I knew that it was only a clue to the answer, and not part of it.
[5] Thanks for the clue. I don't know if I would have been able to identify the plant without it.
I was lucky in that my husband recognized the basketball guy. Yet it still took 9 minutes to solve this, mostly because I'd never heard the answer phrase either.
I'm amazed some people solved this and every other puzzle in mere seconds.
By "name of the trophy", by the way, ignore the fact that Siemens had the naming rights to it at some point. Googling for the Siemens Trophy got me nowhere, slowly.

[1] No idea. I don't even know if we're supposed to ID the award, the ball, or guy... or if it's more generic.

I believe the company that sponsors that trophy is also responsible for sponsoring the Spaceship Earth ride at Walt Disney World - FL.
Any salt on the plant?

[9] NP.
BTW, the "2000" on the bleachers behind the guy is a bit misleading. He did not win that award in that year.

If you are a blues fan then you might recognize this one. It's the title to a song.

Okay, I see a pattern... the more vocal I become against the inclusion of sports in the puzzles the more they show up.
