If anyone hasn't guessed from today's featured and yesterday's unfeatured puzzles, I like math. :) While most of my puzzle submission do not use math, I do try to throw the odd one in there while keeping it accessible.
[3] Yeah, I also left that rear door, but I was hoping that wouldn't be the first thing people try. :p
I considered leaving the area out, since it's not necessary to solving, but enough people complain about math in puzzles that I left the extra clue in... this time. ;-)
[5] Unless educated guessing means avoiding harder math by using assuming the numbers are integers. The puzzle really is designed to be as easy as possible if you only know a few math facts.
To counter any "I dislike math" sentiment, I love math!
I was thinking that I should be able to figure it out from just 13, 14, and 15, but while trying to remember how to do so I noticed that we also had the area, which made it much easier. Probably a good idea to include it, though, to make it easier on those less inclined towards math.
100 solves! Thanks for playing my first featured puzzle.
[3][15] You're right, I could have made that clue a bit bigger, especially considering all the other text in the puzzle. Next time.
EDIT: Now I remember why the area clue was a smaller font: I was trying to fit it into the corner so it flowed well with the "My Favorite Triangle" text. Looks like it fit too well... Live and learn.
[14] I'd have to agree with you. I tried to make this fun, but the numbers I had to play with didn't make it possible, so I went with easy instead.
'k, just for the record (and to clear my name), I have a degree in mathematics, and I'm currently teaching a course that's essentially a math course. I like math; I'm good at it.
I'm just better at educated guessing and backsolving. :-)

Math is hard. (Especially when you miss the fact that the area is given.) Educated guessing, however, can get you 2nd. :-)

Actually, it's not as hard as it looks. Major math not really required. :)

Got it after the first letter. Helps to have a math degree :)

you don't really need the back door of area, if you just keep in mind that everything is an integer you can pigeonhole the right numbers pretty quick.

Not that hard but not that enjoyable either. It was so-so. Thanks for the puzzle though.

I solved for the Pythagorean triples, then cursed myself when I saw that the area gave me a much easier approach.
