Absolutely no special characters (such as hyphens, accents, punctuation, etc.) are used in the answer. Originally, the answer was misspelled. It has since been corrected, so for solving purposes, much of the "salt" below has been rendered obsolete.

Bonne chance, mon ami.

The correct spelling is not working.

Then why won't it take the answer?

Relying on google to spell check this isn't working.

s or x?

I thought I knew how to spell this, but I guess I don't.

my answer seems right, but not accepted

[6] ditto

Same here.

ditto!!

tried it multiple ways, not working

I'm missing it also.....are the first two words hyphanated?

The answer to what the puzzle is asking is definitely not "oui".

[12] yes, when written correctly.

I think that is my 1st 1st. Had to try lots of different spellings to finally hit the right one. sacrebleu!

thought i knew it right away but can't get the correct spelling....

Not taking here either
:(

so how about a hint?

[15] please share

[14] Not taking it with the hypen and question mark....tried both combinations. Hate it when this happens.

Not taking it with the ç typed in either. Tried 12 combinations so far that should have worked.

Obviously, there is some sort of error - as the correct spelling does not work. And there really aren't any "alternate" spellings.

If you're gonna do a foreign language, at least spell it correctly.

[15] could you tell the rest of us? Having studied French is proving to be a hindrance.

How many alternate spellings can there be?! [15]

[24] None of which I am aware!

[23] I never took french myself and I still can't figure it out either

[25] i was worried. I thought I remembered how to spell this one too!

well....s or z ces or cais

Both submitter and mod that put this up should undergo some counselling. Very frustrating, when you get the phrase within 10 seconds and then spends 10 minutes trying to figure out the spelling. And everything you find on the internet is rejected for answer.

The "-" and "+" are rebus instructions to add or remove a sound. The dash/hyphen/whatever usually inserted between words 1 and 2 is not in the answer (as it says in the first comment).

CWarrior: seriously. It's spelled wrong. Even taking into account the hyphen: it's spelled wrong. I still don't know what spelling you're using, but it's wrong.

Screw the salt and Merde

<<edit>> is not taking.

So how did you spell it?

I'm not using the dash - but the correctly spelled phrase, as indicated by the rebus, does not work.

[30] The hyphen is not the problem. Something is spelled wrong.

Got that CWarrior, but spelling all over the internet is either parlez vous francais or parley vous francais. Neither one is being taken as answer.

Anyone who got it, can you help narrow down the spelling?

using parsley you get parley wrong spelling but still won't take

No puctuation, as far as the letters I had to finally use, I am trying to think of ways to give clues without giving it all away. It is not the normal spelling

Apparently, I used a person's name for the third word rather the correct proper noun. If you're tempted to put an "a" in word 3, try an "o" in its place.

Now the question is ... when do I correct it?

Interestingly, google returned over 150,000 hits for the spelling as originally submitted. Granted, the correct spelling returned over 560,000 hits.

!

It is not the "normal" spelling? Then WTF if you pardon my french.

!

Boo

[30] Yes I read your first comment. Tried it without any dashes, punctuation, or special characters FIRST with no luck.

THEN assuming a problem, I tried dash, question mark, and alternate spellings from Google.

LASTLY I tried the ç character.
...and many combinations thereof.

BIG THUMBS DOWN on this puzzle. Got it solved, but it was VERY frustrating.

[81] Putting the information about punctuation in the puzzle itself instead of the first message (which wasn't there when I first tried to solve it...it showed 0 posts) would have been nice....and fairer to the early solvers.

[39] thanks.

There is nothing correct other than the NORMAL spelling!

Do I speak Frank? Is that a new language? Not sure what that is!

francois is no aime on mine

[39] correct it now, and edit your fist comment to include the change.

Your alternate spelling is a NAME, not the LANGUAGE!!

[47] Excellent!

[39] Correct it now.

The mods should be ashamed for missing this obvious typo!

Even the solution explanation is inconsistent!

ç doesn't help.

[40] I think that's going a little far...

How the devil did this get through??? It's in a foreign language AND it's misspelled!!!

[39] Just post the answer here and call it a day, mon ami.

[39] NOW!!

Until it's corrected, the last word uses the French version of the name from [47], NOT the language.

This is yet another case where some moderator needs to step up and take responsibility for approving this. It's a perfectly fine puzzle as puzzles go, but letting something through with so fundamental a mistake is just an embarrassment.

the mixup seems to be on the last word. the "A" may need replaced... oooooooooooo

Very frustrated. Took you 14 minutes to solve this puzzle. I had it in 15 seconds, give another 30 seconds to get the spelling correct form the internet. NOPE :(

[39] Perhaps a translation page might have been a better choice to find the correct spelling?

Due to the misspelling, it has since been corrected. No all of those trying to enter the name are going to get ticked off....

Would someone please just give everyone the mis-spelled word instead of hinting around?

[3] using the o got it - but your answer description is missing the z! (the correct answer as of when I solved it DOES have the z)

edit: the a is now correct, but the answer description is still off...

edit 2: now the description is correct.

I call shenanigans.

edit... link removed cuz of saltiness..

CWarrior, this was a nice puzzle, i don't know why all the flack. people take these things too seriously. Being somewhat literate in French, yeah, it was kinda annoying, but at least I knew the answer right away. hey points don't mean anything anyways right?

not a bad puzzle... just a little bit of confusion

I think this was so unfair since I don't speak French. Mods turn down puzzles for location and let this one through. For shame mods!

Maybe under the puzzle maker's name they should also put "Approved by:" so we know who to harass for approving the puzzle! :-)

It works now, as long as you leave out the hyphen and question mark that are supposed to be in this phrase. Even the correction is incorrect.

[70] Don't feel bad. It was also unfair if you do speak French.

This was a crappy puzzle; I'm not complaining about the spelling error,
just noting the picture in the second line of the clues ;)
And [43], didn't you mean to say "poo"?

[68] I agree up to a point...but when one has the right answer, but the incorrect solution is wanted, it is a tad frustrating to figure out the mistake.

The mods were brought onboard to catch this sort of obvious error - which makes it all the more frustrating. More so as featured puzzles get two reviews before they are posted - so that is 3 people that missed the mistake we all saw immediately.

[70] even if you don't speak french there's enough online translators out there that could help. There's been some spanish puzzles put through too

I hate snakes, even pictures of them, but that's my hangup.

I can't think of a situation in which a picture of ... organic waste products ... is necessary, and certainly never desireable. Call me prude if you must, but I can't stand it when I have to stare at feces in order to solve a puzzle. Yes, I know it's fake. Doesn't matter.

Then to discover immediately that it wasn't spelled correctly is just frustrating. Obviously we all knew the answer, and couldn't enter it.

I'll give this one credit for announcing no punctuation, so we didn't need to waste time with the hyphen or question mark, which in THIS puzzle would have been acceptable, since that's how it's properly spelled out as a common phrase. But that's too little goodness for an otherwise unpleasant puzzle.

I have a page of French baby names open, but they're not taking. Can someone just TG me the correct spelling?

Edit: it wouldn't take because the answer had been changed.

[78] They corrected the puzzle now to the CORRECT spelling.
