of couse the instant I post I figure it out. [9] helped me crack it.
I had spotted the difference between ( and ) early on but it wasn't until he said that getting SH##) made sense that I figured it out.
Look at the bottom word and imagine the odd characters are just "X"'s or blank spaces. What word does it look like? Then maybe that'll help you find the key.
[21] I guess I had more than "nothing" because I had that. but they don't seem to be very fruitful. started working left to right and my theory fell apart at #4... maybe its the ~~ that has been previously objected to.
As "the 161st Tanga member to solve it," I guess I'm not enough of a gamer to enjoy the "aha" moment. However, my fingers did tingle a bit on the Keyboard as I worked my way through it. Having never heard of this, I totally agree with [4] and [5] and will be eternally grateful to [6]. An interesting puzzle, and I did enjoy the "TADA" moment when I ultimately earned my 10 points!
[33] & [34] I understand now. I guess the fact that I'm on a laptop was my undoing. I had brute forced everything else and the ~ didn't fit... still doesn't on my laptop. oh well. points is points.
one of the few games I have actually played. Got it from one word only but had to figure out which part of the name to use..... and my computer was slow.
[25] You probably were misunderstanding the key. Try looking away from the screen and maybe you'll understand the basis of the cypher. There is a pattern to the madness.
I have a tough time hearing the people who haven't played this game, or even heard of it. It is one of my looooong time favorites. Makes for a great party game with the right group of people. And any game that you can say the phrase "I've got @((d for sh##)" is just wonderful in my book. Juvenile I know, but we always get a giggle and a titter from that.
[43] I know right!? The first time I played it they were telling me how the trading works and what the different commodities were. I said something like "so wait, if I wanted to give away @((d and was looking to receive sh##) I could say 'I've got @((d for sh##)'?" We all got a great laugh and now I make sure to throw that out there every single time I play the game no matter if I need it or not. That's been going on now for nearly 10 years, I may have aged but I doubt I've actually grown up much in that time.

What messed me up was that I failed to realize that ')' is not the same as '('. Then it all made sense.

I can't figure a word that start with ($# and ends with a double ~
....
think I'll just go to websudoku... just as satisfying without the frustration.
(of course I know that I can only resist returning for so long)

Finally figured out the key. Considering this site (and one other that comes to mind) I should have figured it out long before.

[23] the ~ is not a letter (using the correct key). Consider it a place holder or a blank space.

[24]ah... theory holds... puzzle solved.
I'm not sure how I was supposed to know that about ~ unless I was misusing or underusing the key. :/
