I solved it as the author intended. Got the clues fairly easily, but I got lost in the trees so I never saw the forest. Once I focused on one of the clues in particular, it was an "oh, duh" moment.
This is awful. I give salt to solving the first part and everyone goes on to solve it from there....except me. I just can't see anywhere to go with this. Not even with the salt from [20]. That's just got me more confused.
[25] Well, even googling it didn't come up with the intended answer or anything remotely like it. But [26] got it and helped me see the forest. Thank you!
...I finally plugged in random words until something fit.
How in the WORLD were we supposed to get THAT from those words? I've never HEARD of that person before, and nothing that I Googled even got me CLOSE to that.
...I'm afraid this puzzle, as written, is unsolvable for people without inside knowledge.

nice method, but in this case a little easy to guess.

I also guessed it -- I should have worked it out instead. But at least I was able to admire it when I read the solution explanation.

I'm drawing blanks. Time to do my real job for a while and check back in later.

At least a third of the solvers (at time of posting) guessed. That is not boding well for me.

Edit to add - all in all I liked it!

Can you TG me a push, because I can't figure out what to put in place of the little feet that will make sense?

[8] the only line that helped me at all was the second, so thanks. The rest are just weird. I'm not old enough for this puzzle ;)

And is one of the words spelled wrong on purpose, or did this actually come from somewhere?

is ballroom dancing a requirement for this puzzle?

Ok, I think I have gotten step one successfully. But I have no idea where to go from here.

[11] No. How many footsteps are in each line? Do you see something else the same lenght?

[15] if you have all the clues, think big picture, focusing on the second clue.

[15] yea the second line is key

[16] I have all the clues, but can't make anything out of it. Second clue leaves me clueless.

[23] Google just the second words of the second and last (fifth) lines.
Tintin

[23] I think [20] means to read the quote at the end in the context of the second clue.
And don't read the second clue too literally, because that could lead you down the wrong path.

"the filled in clues should reveal that this is talking about..."
I'm sorry, but the filled in clues didn't reveal that to me, and no amount of googling did either. - needed the nudge over at BGG thanks
I guess this is why this is a Hard OWW

Huh... when I google D____ and S______, the answer to the puzzle always pops up as the word right after the search terms.

[35] Most of us were googling on D____ T____, more than likely. I know I was.
