I went to italy about 7 years ago and my parents just got back from Italy this week, so I've had a chance to see some of the postcards\pictures of the work they brought back and all of it is simply amazing, but i have to say Mikey is my favorite.
no contest Van Gogh... followed closely by Norman Rockwell. VG used color and light so brilliantly and NR was just plain unbelievable, check out the Norman Rockwell museum if you want to see some truly awesome paintings!
I love reading the comments here. They give me a glimpse of what some of the members like.
I, myself, like Renoir. He was my favorite when I was younger. Now I like more vivid colors and bolder strokes. So Van Gogh paintings don't freak me out anymore.

[1] That would have been my choice too. Leonardo because he wields a pair of katanas.

For sheer scope of genius I have to go Leonardo. My favorite artist, however, is Jan Vermeer.

Preferred Usagi Yojimbo myself....
Hmm, as an intellect (and probably unbearable to be around) I would say Da Vinci.
As Far as a painter only, I might choose Raphael. But my fave isn't some pansy-ass Italian, Gimme some Hans Holbein!
