The seahorse family consists of more than 270 species ranging from 0.4 to 6 inches in size. Seahorse is not a fast swimmer, but has excellent camouflage skills. Seahorses suck in plankton and small fish through a pipe-like mouth. They are highly valued as aquarium pets for their unique shape and color. Seahorses form long term pair bonds with suitable mates. The males fertilize and carry the eggs in the special pouch until they hatch.
