Alfa’s AWUS036AC is designed for those with a serious need for wireless Internet speed. Its 2x dual-band antenna (2.4GHz / 5GHz) setup lets you connect to AC networks at a tire-burning 867Mbps and to any networks up to a whopping 300 Mbps. As the new wireless draft 802.11ac technology was developed to optimize the handling of heavy data transfer demands like video streaming and large files syncing, the AWUS036AC is the ultimate tool for taking advantage of the next wave in wireless connectivity. Yet, despite all its power and speed, this little Alfa comes in a really small form factor akin to a USB thumb drive.

Alfa AWUS036AC brings long range 802.11ac technology to PCs at an affordable cost. It is a new long range dual antenna 867 Mbps Wi-Fi USB adapter compatible with Windows XP through Windows 10. It features two RP-SMA antenna ports, and two 5 dBi dual-band antennas. The antennas are detachable and can be upgraded.

AWUS036AC is capable of receiving and transmitting on both the 2.4 GHz and 5 Ghz bands. With 802.11ac standard routers, AWUS036AC can acheive throughput speeds up to 867 Mbps. This adapter is backward compatible with 802.11g and 802.11n networks, but an 802.11ac router is required for the maximum throughput.

The dual antennas and high receive sensitivity also allow it to pick up Wi-Fi signals from up to 2 times the distance of newer internal 802.11ac Wi-Fi cards shipping inside today’s laptops. This is brand new in retail box and includes the adapter, two 5 dBi dual-band antennas, driver CD, and USB docking base.

Special USB dock allows for optimal range placement
This adapter can connect directly to a USB port. A USB 3.0 port is required for the maximum 867 Mpbs connection speed. The included dock can be used to put the adapter in better placement for increased range. Using this device with our without the dock on older computers that do not have USB 3 ports will limit speed to 480 Mbps.

Compatibility

• USB 3.0 port required for max speed, though is compatible with USB 2.0 ports also at a max speed of 480 mbps. This works on Microsoft Surface Pro tablets running Windows 8/10 (requires driver download) but does NOT work with Windows Surface RT tablets or other tablets/laptops running Microsoft Surface RT, which looks like Windows 8 but is actually a locked down version of Windows that does not support 3rd party drivers.
