This thing needed one small change to be perfect: The included filter media was so restrictive it kept the water from reaching the pump. I changed out the included carbon / fabric media (keep the plastic filter frame) and put in some regular pool filter fabric - super cheap change and it works without issue now. Extra bonus: I don't use the food bowl, so I took it out, cut two holes just big enough for 1-liter soda bottle necks in the plastic under it, and set a pair of upside down bottles in there, raising the capacity to 5 liters.
