Gaming and Engineering 👏🏻

Depending on your performance/battery settings, you have to charge it pretty often, but it’s perfect for gaming (heavy-duty like COD, Warframe, Fortnite, etc.) and even SolidWorks if you’re using it for CAD classes or such while in college or after 👍🏻. You don’t really have to get a monitor if you don’t want to.

Everyone loves new electronics

It has been a long time (approx 20 years) since I’ve purchased a new hp laptop. My previous purchase was a Mac desktop. So I may be out of touch on a few things. Pros: super fast gaming speed, sleek look, keyboard lights up, number pad, light weight. Cons: no camera cover built in, during sign in you must go through a whole Microsoft set up in order to use-which I had to create a new Microsoft email address-which I would have preferred to go without. Overall. I’m very happy with this laptop and I know it’ll be a great laptop for what we need.

Works great and runs fast but needed some updating to the system.

Pretty great basic laptop. Needed some updates when we first turned it on but that’s expected. Runs quiet and fast. Keep in mind the 15.6 is the diagonal size of the screen as the laptop itself is really only 14 inches at its widest. It will fit in most backpacks. The only things that I didn’t like was the power cord it’s a bit bulky compared to some newer laptops.

Great gaming computer and every day

Really happy with this computer. Is great for game play (Sims, Minecraft, Sim City) and is great to every day use as well, does everything that I could need it for. Like the keypad and battery life is perfect for a full day without needing a charge, graphics are as expected and sound is clear. High recommend for game play or every day use.

Great laptop to game on

Review of HP Victus laptop The laptop is a powerful machine capable of playing most recent 3D games at very high graphics and performance settings at a great price point. The keyboard provides a comfortable typing experience for the main keys, but can feel cramped due to the number of function keys squeezed in. The trackpad provides an acceptable experience. It is ok but not great and I found myself not wanting to use it for extended periods of time, opting for a dedicated mouse instead. The machine is heavier than other laptops. It is bulky and may not fit in some sleeves or backpacks which are designed for 15 inch laptops. Sign in forces a Microsoft online account. No local option despite a message stating “if you want to sign in with a local account … select the start button … and select Sign in with a local account” when you click on “more info.” It took me about 15 minutes to go through the initial set up process. Make sure to plug in the computer before turning it on. The start up process will check and the battery needs a certain charge level before the computer will boot. Screen Quality It is alright. This is not the standout feature of the laptop but it is not a deal breaker. With a fast refresh rate of 144hz, movement is smooth. The definition is 1920x1080 which is not high enough for 4k content. Benchmarking This is a gaming laptop which will run most recent 3D game at high resolutions with high detail. This laptop works very well for everyday tasks. It will easily handle web browsing, streaming video, and other everyday tasks with ease. Something to note about performance. This laptop has a dedicated Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) and an integrated GPU. If you buy this computer, be aware that the operating system defaults to the integrated GPU in order to save energy. This means workloads will run on the integrated GPU which is significantly less powerful than the dedicated GPU. Take a look at the following benchmark scores I captured by running UserBenchmark.com's benchmarking suite. These are the scores when running the dedicated GPU: UserBenchmarks: Game 19%, Desk 84%, Work 19% CPU: Intel Core i5-12500H - 80.3% GPU: Intel Iris Xe Graphics - 14.2% SSD: Samsung MZVL2512HCJQ-00BH1 512GB - 223.4% RAM: Hynix HMAA1GS6CJR6N-XN 2x8GB - 72.7% MBD: HP Victus by HP Gaming Laptop 15-fa1xxx The percentage value after each score is UserBenchmarks "effective speed" for typical consumers. Closer to 100% is better. The GPU in this benchmark is at 14%, which is very poor for GPU workloads (think running games or video). With a few configuration tweaks in Windows, the same exact laptop can perform much better. UserBenchmarks: Game 94%, Desk 100%, Work 95% CPU: Intel Core i5-12500H - 93.9% GPU: Nvidia RTX 4050 (Laptop) - 96.2% SSD: Samsung MZVL2512HCJQ-00BH1 512GB - 268.7% RAM: Hynix HMAA1GS6CJR6N-XN 2x8GB - 80.7% MBD: HP Victus by HP Gaming Laptop 15-fa1xxx Same laptop, same performance benchmark test, the GPU score is 96.2% which indicates that this machine is very good at handling GPU intensive workloads. Preloaded Apps The laptop comes with a number of HP applications preloaded. These applications are targeted at users who play games. They help organize game libraries, take screenshots in game, and "tune" the PC performance. The major benefit of the preloaded apps is how easy it makes it to switch between the performance profiles of the computer. The benchmark scores above should demonstrate that this machine has the capability to conserve power by being less performant, which is great when browsing the web or typing in a word processor, not so great when playing a game. The computer is performant at the cost of power consumption and performance profile switching is supposed to happen automatically. In my experience with the machine, it does a good job switching to the high performance profile when playing popular games. If you are using the computer for intensive workloads which are not games, you may need to tinker with the performance profile settings manually. This should not be a big deal for most users but I mention it in case you are supporting a computer tinkerer who likes to watch YouTube videos of how to overclock a PC. If the settings get messed up, the computer could feel slow. Buy this laptop for if you are a computer user who values performance over portability. The dedicated graphics card is awesome. The CPU is very powerful and will easily handle everyday tasks and gaming workloads. The SSD drive is very fast and helps reduce computer and application boot times. I recommend anyone purchasing this laptop for someone else to sit with them during the set up process and go through the tutorials provided by the HP Omen gaming software. The tutorials will help you get the most out of this high performing machine.
