Alfa AWUS036NHR v2 is a long range 2000mW max RF output power Wi-Fi USB adapter from Alfa Network, Inc., the leader in long range Wi-Fi. This is version 2, launched in August 2013. It features a redesigned interior that enhances quality and functionality. It is brand new in retail box and includes the adapter, a 5 dBi antenna, driver CD, 5 ft USB cable, and one mount holder with detachable suction cup and clip. The cup is great if you want to fasten it to a window, while the clip is perfect for mobile users as it allows the device to be easily clipped to the bezel on many laptop LCD displays.
Compatibility: Microsoft Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1
It ships with a Linux driver which comes with no warranty or support. Linux is a user supported operating system and at this time we do no have walk-throughs or Linux help files. We recommend searching online using the chipset name RTL8188RU to find out if this is compatible with your Linux distro. This works on Microsoft Surface Pro tablets running Windows 8 (requires driver download) but does NOT work with Windows Surface RT tablets or other tablets/laptops running Microsoft Surface RT.

More about this item:
Use this device to get 2-3x Wi-Fi range on your desktop or laptop PC. No built-in Wi-Fi card is required. This has markedly improved receive sensitivity compared to its predecessor, model AWUS036NH. Alfa’s AWUS036NHR combines the fast speed of 802.11n with long range reception for both 802.11g and 802.11n standard.
If your built-in Wi-Fi adapter is not getting it done any more, the improved 802.11n and 802.11g receive sensitivity of AWUS036NHR will allow you to connect from greater distances and get stronger signals to Wi-Fi networks around you. With maximum speeds of 150 mbps to 802.11n routers, AWUS036NHR is also a perfect solution for video streaming, large downloads, and online gaming.
Why AWUS036NHR instead of an 802.11n product off the store shelf? Most 802.11n products were designed to get good receive sensitivity and long ranges to 802.11n routers set to a special mode called “N-only” mode which blocks backward compatibility with 802.11g devices. They are backward compatible with 802.11g equipment but get only basic receive sensitivity to G networks. Many people who have upgraded their home routers to 802.11n are not able to set the router to N-only mode as this would block connectivity for G-only devices like iPhones, Android phones, and many DVRs. AWUS036NHR is one of the first Wi-Fi adapters to get very good receive sensitivity to both 802.11n-only, 802.11n/g mixed, and 802.11g networks. Just check out this video comparing the signal strength of AWUS036NHR to Alfa’s AWUS036NH.
